Can you “cause” someone to love you “freely?”

Below is an article from one of our Arminian friends who makes a robust case against the Calvinist’s claim of irresistible grace not violating human freedom and responsibility.  Enjoy!

ADDED NOTE: Some found the picture of a man putting a pill into a drink offensive because they took it mean that the author was equating date rape with Calvinism. The author is actually making a very old and valid argument about true human responsibility by pointing out that “doing as one desires” does not necessarily qualify as “free” or “responsible” if someone else is controlling those desires. Referencing a love potion or drug that alters one’s desire is a fair analogy and is not meant to equate rape with Calvinism’s view of irresistible calling. It is meant to discredit the compatibilistic notion that a choice is free so long as one is acting according to their desires…a point that most have ignored.

Because we do not wish the focus to remain on a red herring (i.e. the author lacks virtue so I don’t have to answer his argument) the picture has been changed. We doubt those who take the time to post memes or call around and make trouble by virtue signalling and shame bashing will actually take the time to address the validity of the author’s arguments, but we hope the change of the picture will make it more likely.
